Kanapu completed two interactive series of online Mātanga Talks that highlighted the leadership journeys and career pathways of mātanga (specialists) in research, science, innovation and technology.

A deeper discussion about priority areas across research, science, innovation, and technology. These two-to-three-hour sessions were designed to strengthen understanding through interactive discussions and practical resources that can be applied both personally and professionally.

Kanapu completed six online mentoring programmes for grassroot Māori collectives to shape or consolidate their research, science, innovation or technology-related initiatives. Wānanga themes included legal structures, mātauranga Māori, intellectual property, accounting, taxes, funding sustainability, governance and mobilising support for your initiative.

A follow-on support package from the mentoring programme Te Ako Rau, aimed at accelerating collectives to achieve the next steps for their initiatives. Participants gained advice, resources and contacts as well as meeting one-on-one with mātanga (specialists) in fields such as financial sustainability, application writing, legal, research, technology, mentorship and communication.

Kanapu hosted four wānanga with Māori communities to learn about marae, hapū and hapori research, science, innovation and technology (RSIT) aspirations, and support attendees to lead out RSIT initiatives from within their area.
